Martha Ankomah v Lil Win: Out-of-court settlement fails, Nov. 5 hearing set

In the GHS5 million defamation case brought against Kwadwo ‘Lil Win’ Nkansah by Martha Ankomah, an out-of-court settlement proposal has failed.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, according to Graphic Online, Martha’s lawyers, led by Mr Nii Apatu Plange, informed Justice Forson Agyapong Baah that defendant Lil Win was not ready for an out-of-court settlement as earlier indicated.

“We made our proposals to the intermediary, but he later informed us that it did not seem the defendant was ready for settlement, so I will say that settlement could not be achieved,” Martha’s legal team said in court.

Nii A. Plange said: “We pray the matter proceeds.”

Thus, Justice Forson A. Baah adjourned the case to November 5, 2024, for hearing.

“In the circumstances, the case is adjourned to 5th November 2024, for hearing to begin at 8:30 a.m. Let hearing notices, along with today’s notes, be issued and served on the defendant,” the court said.

While plaintiff Martha Ankomah was in court, defendant Lil Win was not. There was no legal representation present for him, also.

In February, actress Martha Ankomah sued actor Lil Win when a video of the latter appeared on the internet. In the viral video, among other things, Lil Win, using abusive language, attacked Martha because he had allegedly been informed Martha insulted Kumawood, the popular Kumasi-based movie scene.

Even if all pastors pray and anoint Mahama, he will not be president again – Prince David Osei

Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has recently taken to X to express his doubts over the likelihood of former President John Dramani Mahama becoming President again.

David Osei, a sympathiser of the NPP believes that despite declarations in favour of John Mahama from renowned pastors in the country, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, won’t win the presidency.

In his post, David Osei claimed that the “propaganda” and accusations against the ruling NPP including the illegal mining or galamsey is not limited to any one political party.

He asserted that influential people and members of both NPP and NDC are also involved in this illegal activity.

“Good morning fellow countrymen and women. Let me share a brief perspective. Even if all the pastors were to pray and anoint Ex-President Mahama, he would not regain the presidency.

“The ongoing propaganda tactics against the NPP, including accusations of involvement in illegal mining, will not succeed.

“The issue of illegal mining involves individuals from both NDC and NPP, politicians, pastors, and the public. Some of us are not mere observers; our prayers are impactful. Pay attention and consider the facts,” he wrote.

Ghana has long struggled with this complicated issue, and research indicates that the reason the campaign against illegal mining hasn’t been successful is because the subject is politically charged

John Mahama promises fund for ageing artistes

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to create a fund for ageing creatives if he takes over the reins of government after the December 2024 election.

He made this promise at a policy dialogue held at the AH Hotel in Accra on Friday, June 7, 2024 for stakeholders of the creative arts industry.   According to him, the welfare of creatives has always been his concern; a reason he usually makes donations to such individuals in the entertainment space.

John Mahama, therefore, intimated that to sustain and amplify this gesture, he intends to put in place more effective measures.

“We will formalise the Ageing Artistes Fund. This one is my personal, greedy and selfish [promise] because it will take the burden off me for the current ones that I am taking care of. I think that the state should take part of that burden. So we will create a fund for ageing artistes and we will identify the indigen ones who are in support so that we can get them money to buy their medicines and be able to feed themselves. So we will set up the ageing artistes fund and we will formalise it,” he noted.

The former President indicated that elsewhere in the world, the most successful and the richest people are the creatives but the same cannot be said about Ghana.

“The creative arts is a very important industry and has the potential to create millions of jobs. All our young people who are sitting at home, many of them are talented but there are no opportunities for them to show their talents. So if we are able to put the creative industry on a sound footing, it will create opportunities for many of our young people,” he noted.

Ahead of the launch of their manifesto, he also mentioned other strategies they intend to use to elevate the industry if they are given the mandate to govern the country again.

(1). To make budgetary allocation for the creative arts

(2) Declare the Golden Age of Culture, Arts and Tourism, an overarching policy for the sector: where there will be actions and modules to promote job creation and entrepreneurship. Under this will be the BlackStar Experience, which will be one of the sub-themes to imbue Africanism in Ghanaians and encourage people to come from all over the world to see our arts, tourism and culture.

Kanye West sued for sexual harassment by ex-assistant

Kanye West is being sued for sexual harassment, breach of contract and wrongful termination by a woman who worked as his assistant for two years.

In a lawsuit, Lauren Pisciotta alleges the star sent her lewd texts and performed sex acts while on the phone with her, according to US media. She claims she was fired in 2022, but that a $3 million (£2.4 million) severance package was never paid

The lawsuit was first reported in the US by TMZ, and later confirmed by Rolling Stone, The Wrap and US Weekly, which says court papers were filed on Monday in the US. The BBC has so far been unable to verify the filing.

According to the documents, Pisciotta was primarily supporting herself via an OnlyFans profile in 2021 when she met West.

She says he hired her to work on the first season of his Yeezy women’s fashion line, and they ended up collaborating on three tracks from his Donda album (Pisciotta does not have any formal credits on the record, however).

Pisciotta also claims he masturbated while talking to her on the phone and that, on one occasion, he pleasured himself in front of her after “trapping” her in a private room on his plane.

Around September 2022, she was promoted to Chief of Staff for his various companies, but was abruptly fired soon afterwards, her lawsuit claims. Her severance package was allegedly never paid.

In addition to sexual harassment, breach of contract, and wrongful termination, Pisciotta is also suing West and his Yeezy businesses for fraud, unpaid wages, and intentional infliction of emotion distress.

This is not the first time the rapper has been accused of lewd behaviour.

Last November, multiple employees of his Yeezy fashion line told Rolling Stone he had played pornographic films during staff meetings, and showed an intimate photograph of his then-wife Kim Kardashian in job interviews.

West has not responded to the allegations at the time, and has maintained his silence ever since.
